Design to Align is dedicated to supporting educators in improving curriculum, instruction, and assessment for all students by providing quality, customized educational training and consulting services.
With so much changing in the world of education it is important that teachers are given resources, time, and guidance in order to implement curriculum and assessments with fidelity and effectiveness. Design to Align provides support for administrators and teachers in implementing changes that will positively impact students. We strive to provide hands-on professional development that not only ensure participants gain knowledge, but also begin to develop crucial collaboration skills.
Virginia Alonso – Owner and Senior Consultant
Virginia Alonso is a first-class international educational consultant with vast experience as an award-winning K-12 mathematics educator, school administrator, and author. To support teachers with mathematics standards, Virginia has authored the Design to Align Standards Literacy Guides. IBM is using her research skills to assist in the development the Education Watson Program. As a senior faculty member, Virginia co-authored math graduate courses and designed webinars for long distance learning. District achievements while working with Virginia include, but not limited to,
- Harriet Tubman Elementary in Harlem, New York: increased student proficiency from 43% to 54% in math, with students with disabilities increase from 12% to 31%, ELL increase from 15%-55%, and Economically Disadvantaged increase from 39% to 51%.
- Navajo Nation (Bureau of Indian Education) in New Mexico: deconstructed 21st Century College and Career Mathematics Standards and developed curriculum units, with a focus on Depth of Knowledge, Math Practice Standards and Academic Vocabulary.
- Miami-Dade Elementary Schools in Florida: elevated four low performing School Report Cards from failing to passing (one up to an A), with 42% – 64% gains in mathematics.
- St. Thomas High School in Virgin Islands: developed unit plans and common assessments with scoring rubrics aligned to Smarter Balanced Consortium State Assessments.
